38 Degrees is one of the leading campaigning organisations in the UK. Together, we've helped stop the privatisation of England's forests and seen off some of the worst aspects of the government's plans for the NHS. 38 Degrees members choose our campaigns and keep the organisation going: all our funding comes from our members chipping in.

38 Degrees Internships are paid, 6 months in length and begin on a quarterly basis.

The current application is open until 5pm 11th Jan 2018, to start the internship at the beginning of March 2018.

We anticipate receiving a large number of applications for this post, and hope you will understand that we cannot reply individually to all unsuccessful candidates. If you have not heard from us by 17th January therefore, this will mean that we have, regrettably, decided not to shortlist you for the post.

38 Degrees interns are characterised by their energy and enthusiasm. You’ll have the ability to pick things up quickly, a can-do attitude and a passion and pride in what you do. You’ll work hard and learn fast. In return, you will be equipped with all the skills and experiences you need to build a career in this fast and exciting area of campaigning. You’ll also be a valued member of our friendly, close-knit office team.

At 38 Degrees we pride ourselves on nimble, focused campaigns that we’re more likely to put together in two hours than two weeks. That means our team is decisive, ambitious and happy to take risks. We’d rather aim high and see what happens than play it safe. We believe democracy works better when more people get involved.

CAMPAIGNS INTERNSHIP INVOLVES:

Working alongside the 38 Degrees campaigns staff in every aspect of planning and running our people-powered campaigns.
Leading on specific projects, such as putting on events and making creative content seen by millions of people.
Developing your strategic and practical understanding of delivering campaigns, as well as acquiring highly-transferable technical and communications skills.
A day in the life of a Campaigns Intern could involve:

Discussing a campaign opportunity with the 38 Degrees team
Putting up a post on 38 Degrees’ Facebook page which thousands of people will share
Writing an email and building the tech to enable hundreds of thousands of people to campaign on the opportunity which the 38 Degrees team spotted only a few hours ago!
CAMPAIGNS BY YOU INTERNSHIP INVOLVES:

Working alongside the Campaigns By You team in every aspect of supporting 38 Degrees members to run inspiring local and national campaigns
Leading on specific projects, such as working out the strategy to help members win their own campaigns and making creative content seen by millions of people.
Developing your strategic and practical understanding of delivering campaigns, as well as acquiring highly-transferable technical and communications skills.
A day in the life of a Campaigns By You (CBY) Intern could involve:

Helping moderate the new campaigns that members set up every morning
Calling some petition starters to offer advice on how their campaign could really take off: how to get more signatures, how to speak to their local paper, and how they can win!
Writing an email to 38 Degrees members and building the tech to enable thousands of people to sign the petition
Organising a petition hand in or public meeting about a campaign
Please indicate on your application which internship you’d like to be considered for.

PERSON SPECIFICATION:

All candidates must have some experience of campaigning, and ideally, will be able to show the impact of their contribution. This experience doesn’t need to come from paid work, it can be from work that you have done on a voluntary basis or in your own community.

You must also:

Be passionate about the issues that 38 Degrees works on, including protecting public services, campaigning for social justice, making our tax and banking systems fairer and protecting the environment.
Have a desire to learn how campaigning works and how to use people power to make change happen. Be seriously thinking about a career in campaigning.
Be energetic with a flexible can-do attitude, and ready to work hard alongside everyone on our tight-knit team.
Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, enabling you to work well with other team members and ask for help when it's needed.
Have an ability to apply attention to detail and concentration in busy surroundings, whether the job is big or small.
Have an ability to work proactively and independently, meet deadlines and prioritise tasks as well as mucking in to help the team.
Be comfortable with using IT and able to learn new technology skills quickly.
Be eligible to work in the UK.
